Sore Throat Home Remedy

Have you ever had a sore throat that is so painful it actually hurts to talk? Have your glands ever been so swollen that you can see them sticking out of the side of your neck? Has your throat ever hurt so badly that the thought of swallowing makes you want to cry? Have you ever experienced all three of these terrible symptoms with no cough syrup in the house? Thankfully, you won't have to leave the house for this sore throat home remedy.
This home remedy will soothe your sore throat almost instantly. Heat up a bit of water, about six ounces and squeeze 1 lemon into it, add a lot of honey, between one eighth, and one fourth of a cup. Heat the drink to as hot as you can comfortably drink. After downing the concoction you will feel a bit more comfortable and will be able to think straight. The lemon juice helps to kill off the bacteria in your throat that are making it sore in the first place and the honey coats your throat, the heat from the drink will help to soothe the inflamed tissues.
The great thing about this sore throat home remedy is that you can drink it as often as you want. It is a well known fact that the more fluids you take in when you are sick the better, but obviously, don't overdue it.
If you are brave, you can even add in an additional layer of cold fighting power. Use a garlic press and press a clove of garlic, or finely chop it. Put the garlic in some cheesecloth, muslin, or a coffee filter and let it sit in the drink for about five minutes. Take the garlic out and discard. Then drink the tea as usual. It will not taste as delicious, but garlic is a wonderful natural anti-biotic.
Drink the lemon tea, with or without the added garlic, get plenty of good rest, eat nourishing healthy soups, and drink fresh water, and you should be up again in a few days. A few more good sore throat home remedies include extra vitamin C, the herb elderberry, and the herb echinacea. All three of these remedies can be found at the local drug store, and now is a great time to stock up, before you actually need it. One of the worst times to go buy these are while you are sick. Not only will you be exhausting yourself by driving around town while you are sick, but you will also be spreading germs. Take the time now to stock up for the cold and flu season. It is right around the corner.
